256 neon tubes distributed

Light and pattern changes every

The Central Art Committee of
the Danish Parliament wanted
a decoration that gave light and colour to one of the long, very dark corridors in the Folketing.
The solution draws its inspiration from an old patterned frieze painted by Rasmus Larsen in the years 1918-21. The frieze runs
as a striking decorative element through the central lobby of the Folketing, known as Vandrehallen.
Superficially, the pattern of the frieze is repeated, but on closer scrutiny it emerges that the artist
constantly varies the motif imperceptibly.
"Polytics" consists of neon tubes
in combinations of circles, floral patterns and lines. The work
is set in a niche and is only experienced in its entirety when
one gets relatively close to it. When one moves down the passage it is the lit space around the work that one sees. Every 45 seconds the neon tubes change in different combinations of light and colours. Every second combination is pre-defined, every other one is random. There are more than 100,000 possible combinations.
With a point of departure in the murals in the Folketing lobby, Astrid Krogh has shaped a modern, radiantly coloured frieze for the passage on the third floor. Wall decoration for Folketinget (The Danish Parlement)
