Birkerød Aktivitetscenter, Denmark
”The modern curtain”
Finished in 2007

The Activity Centre of Birkerød is a project by Schmidt
Hammer Lassen Architects, Denmark. The decorative
effect of the sun blinds, which consists of modified glass
fibre lamellas, works not only at daylight but also during
the night.

The sunlight “projects” the integrated pattern through the translucent lamellas to the inside of the building. During
the night the illumination of the inside will make the same
pattern visible from the outside.

Adapted to the big radii of the construction the design
of the pattern underlines the smooth shape of the building
itself. Each window section is 8 m high and 1,5 m wide
and the whole facade will have a size of ca. 1000 QM.
